What We Do
The Emerald Association is dedicated to support underpriviledged children, primarily in The Diosces of Brooklyn
The Emerald Ball
The Emerald Association, established January 12, 1839, has enjoyed a long history of providing financial support to orphans, initially through the Roman Catholic Orphan Asylums of Brooklyn-Queens and later to needy children in the Diocese of Brooklyn and in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
The Emerald Ball is the longest running annual fundraising ball of any society of its kind in the United States. The first ball was held on February 7, 1839 at Smith's City Hotel at 220 Fulton Street in Brooklyn (the future site of the Brooklyn Savings Bank). The proceeds for the 1839 ball totaled $380.75.
